SANOG 10 / APOPS Keynotes
Peering and network design in the 10g global world - Vijay Gill, Google
Vijay Gill is Manager, Network Engineering, at Google. He is responsible for network design, operations, expansion and datacenter network infrastructure, as well as participating in various industry organizations and advancing the company's efforts in the standards arena. Additionally, Vijay serves as advisor to the IETF GROW working group and has co-authored a variety of RFCs on traffic engineering, multihoming, and routing. He has also given talks and presentations on network design, BGP scaling issues, and traffic engineering in forums such as NANOG and IETF.
Prior to joining Google, Vijay worked as Senior Technical Manager - Architecture, for AOL Global Network Operations and was responsible for setting the technical direction and strategy for AOL Global Network Operations. Before AOL, Vijay worked as Manager of Architecture at MFN/Abovenet where he participated in revamping the global backbone, standardization of routing policy and product development. Earlier in his career, Vijay worked as a senior engineer at UUNET, participating in the MPLS and multicast engineering projects.
In his talk, Vijay will talk about his extensive experience in building one of the largest networks in the US, as well as new challenges in building new networks to deliver large volumes of content.
"The architecture of the Internet as critical national infrastructure." - Kurtis Lindqvist, Netnod
Kurt Erik "Kurtis" Lindqvist is a long time Internet enginner, Kurtis has worked on a number of Internet technologies. He was among other things part of creating the first on-line game where you could win money in real-time (1996). Kurtis spent much of his career building networks and required supporting organisations. This was often done from scratch. He was part of establishing the first ISP on the Åland Islands(1994-1996), and merging it with it's competitor (1996) before he spent 1997-2000 building EUnet Internationals (later KPNQwest) swedish network, before moving to then KPNQwest to work for the office of the CTO doing network architecture, planning and research (2000-2002). Since then Kurtis has worked for his own consultancy company and under contract as CEO for Netnod/Autnomica, the operator of Internet Exchange Points in Sweden as well as one of the worlds 13 DNS root-servers.
Kurtis has a long history with international Internet organisations such as RIPE and IETF. He is currently a member of the Internet Architecture Board, and co-chair of IETF shim6 WG, v6ops WG and the chair of the RIPE NCC Services WG. He also chairs the IETF Administrative Support Activity.
In the talk Kurtis will talk about his extensive involvement and experience in running and testing critical Internet architectures as national infrastructure.
